Sonja Yates Hubbard joins WAG as an adviser with an impressive background. An experienced and highly accomplished business executive and national advocate, Sonja is the CEO of E-Z MART, Inc. Sonja’s father started E-Z Mart in 1970 with a single store in Nashville, AR. After earning her credentials as a CPA, Sonja joined the family business in 1987 and rose to become its CEO in 1998, leading a company that would grow to nearly 300 stores in four states.
Mrs. Hubbard is a Certified Public Accountant, who received her Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and accounting from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville in 1985. In 2009 Sonja was awarded the University of Arkansas Walton College of Business Accountant of the Year in Industry and Business.
An involved advocate, Sonja has first-hand experience in engaging Congressmen and Senators on business and economic issues. She is a former Chairman of the Board of the National Association Of Convenience Stores Inc., a major Washington-based association. As a NACS officer, she advocated Congress on a range of issues including Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) regulations, as well as being invited to testify in congressional hearings on boutique fuels mandates and legislation on restaurant and fast food nutrition labeling.
Sonja is also a former director of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis and the Little Rock Branch Federal Reserve. She currently serves on the Arkansas Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission and Chairs the Arkansas Research Alliance. Sonja is also an active Director of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation and the Christus St. Michael Health System.
When asked by an interviewer what the best business advice she had received was, Sonja replied, “My dad told me, ‘Make your words your bond. If you say you’re going to do something, do it. It doesn’t matter what’s written on paper. You always do everything you said you would.’”
